The Dad's Life - A Journey of the Ups and Downs of a Single Dad

My name is Marcus Lappin, and I come from just outside London in the UK. Welcome to The Dad's Life. This is my website where I share my personal experiences—the ups and downs, the challenges and the highs—to help you navigate events in your own life and to give you a different perspective or even a new way of thinking.

The Dad's Life - A Journey of the Ups and Downs of a Single Dad

I tend to process things differently from most. Early in my life, I noticed that many people react to life events and situations like robots, mimicking responses, judgments, and feelings they've seen in films, read in books, or observed in others. It's rare to find someone who approaches each situation uniquely, with their own feelings, judgments, and actions.

For example, when there's a cyber incident, people automatically panic because that's what they've seen in films. If you're stuck in traffic, the immediate reaction is frustration and anger, assuming the delay ruins your day. If someone cheats on you, people think you should feel hurt and angry. When someone dies, you're expected to go through the grieving cycle. If you fail an exam, the typical response is to feel devastated, as if it's the end of the world. When starting a new job, people often experience overwhelming anxiety because they've heard how stressful it can be. If a child misbehaves in public, the automatic reaction is to feel embarrassed and worry about being judged by others. These are all examples of feelings, judgments, and reactions that are robotic and simply based on what we've seen around us. You’ll learn throughout my posts that I look at things completely differently, and so can you.

I am a family man who has always been dedicated, passionate, and above all, the rock and provider everyone in my family can rely on. As you explore my site, you’ll learn what led to me becoming a single dad and how I manage looking after my two girls while holding down a day job, supporting my own businesses, progressing in my career, overcoming challenges, and much more.

You’ll discover how my dad's passing shaped my life, how I remain calm in extreme situations like witnessing three people take their own lives, how I process situations differently from others, how I keep my kids one step ahead at school, and about a looming doomsday event that will change my life for the worse. There's so much more—you’ll have to keep reading to find out the rest.

I hope you’ll find the information here interesting, valuable, and helpful!
